Kaneshige Toyo ( 1896-1967) is from a family of potters active in the Bizen area since the early Edo period, early 17th century. Toyo dedicated working in the revival of Momoyama style Bizen ware and built the foundations of the post war success of Bizen ware. He was designated a Living National Treasure in 1956.
