Takeuchi (1948-2011) was born in Tokoname and helped to revitalize Tokoname ware using local mountain clay and ash glaze. Takeuchi's ceramics are characterized by a high degree of technical control. The potting is sharp and well defined, and the application of the ash glaze carefully calculated. While making direct reference to medieval sources, Takeuchi imbues his work with cool austerity that is unambiguously contemporary in feeling.
