This flower vase in the form of bamboo with a haunting midnight blue glaze is a rare example of Ito Tozan II signed works.

Ito Tozan II  (1871-1937)  is the adopted name of Shinsuke a artist/painter having married the daughter of Ito Tozan I whom was a very successful ceramic artist at International World Fairs in Amsterdam, Paris and Chicago and in 1917 becoming  a member of the Imperial Art Academy. In 1920 the Tozan Studio was established noted for its tea wares.

Ito Tozan II produced a limited amount of artistic pottery wares during a span of 20+ years  and this twin flower vase is an excellent example of his work for flower arrangement as used in the tea ceremony.
