Morino Hiroaki Taimei  (b. 1934)

Morino works are essentially sculptural in geometrical forms with decoration sparingly applied using multi matte coloured glazes. Undulating waves of colour either horizontal or vertical distinguishes his works highlighted with splashes of gold or silver.

The two key influences on his style was his training under Kenkichi Tomimoto where he learnt his decorative skills and secondly his teaching spell in the Art Department of the University of Chicago in the mid 1960’s where he would have been exposed to the Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism of that period. The latter influence is clearly seen on many of his works.

Morino works are exhibited in many of the leading museums worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC; Victoria & Albert Museum, London and the National Museum of Art in Tokyo.
