Sugimoto (1935-) is regarded as a master of the Shigaraki and Iga styles for the tea ceremony. A follower of Zen Buddhism he is associated with Daitokuji temple in Kyoto where he later became an abbot. His works closely follow the Momoyama style in form and feeling.
