a watery blue glaze overlays this plate engraved with a rice plant pattern, the brush strokes recalling the ancient Korean hakme style. Leach studied engraving at art school and used this technique to decorate many of his works.
The underside is brushed with a brown slip and signed BL dated 1961. It is rare to find a date to a Leach ceramic and adds importance to the ceramic which can be confidently fitted into his oeuvre of works.
