Kiatoji Rosanjin
Kiatoji Rosanjin
an open side Shino type serving dish with Oribe glaze featuring a rice sprig, similar to a sketch made by Rosanjin, both glaze and design much favoured by Rosanjin.
the Oribe glaze applied by Rosanjin provided a depth and variation of colour according to the light as can be seen from the photos.
this dish is featured in an Arts of Asia article titled ‘The Seeing Eye’ published Spring 2021 issue
the underside of the dish is marked with a barely discernible ro mark covered by the thick glaze, quote from the book The Art of Rosanjin by Sydney B. Cardozo/Masaaki Hirano … ‘Rosanjin was capricious in his use of seals and markings making difficult to verify … on many of the heavier glazed pieces , most notably those of Shino and Oribe, his mark was all but obscured ‘. However, the dish comes with a tomobako inscribed to the underside of the lid … Kitaoji Rosanjin sensei no Saku Totoan … confirming the dish made by Rosanjin.
